bathroom tile flooring in Charleston and the Lowcountry

Tiles are a perfect flooring option for bathrooms thanks to their high resistance to water damage and easy cleanability. But with all the options for tile on the market, it can be difficult to choose which one is best for your Charleston flooring project. To help with this, the experts at Floor Coverings International of Charleston have outlined the benefits of the three most common types of bathroom tile, so you have an idea of what to look for!

Ceramic Tile

When it comes to practicality, ceramic tile is extremely durable, resistant to water damage, and easy to clean. It requires almost no maintenance routines apart from the occasional mopping, sweeping, or vacuuming, which you should do as necessary. In terms of aesthetics, this tile comes in a wide ranging palette natural white shades to imitation stone or hardwood looks.

One thing to note is that porcelain has the highest durability and water resistance of the three ceramic tiles. This also gives it a higher price tag, but not by much. Quarry and standard non-porcelain ceramic tile offer slightly less protection, but lower price tags, with quarry being the least diverse and the cheapest option.

Vinyl Tile

Vinyl is well-known for its superior resistance to water damage, which outshines even porcelain tile’s. Vinyl comes in planks and sheet form as well as tile, so there are many shapes of vinyl to choose from. Luxury vinyl mimics a wide array of more expensive flooring options like stone and hardwood. It’s also quite comfortable, though it feels less authentic, underfoot.

The quality of vinyl tiles can vary dramatically. Luckily, luxury vinyl tile is a more recent advancement which consistently offers better resistance to stains and scuff marks and is more comfortable thanks to the addition of extra padding. Luxury vinyl will cost more than non-luxury vinyl, but the improvement in quality makes the price well worth it.

Stone Tile

Four common types of stone tile are: limestone, slate, granite, and marble. Of these stones, marble is the most luxurious while granite is the most sought-after due to its applications for floors as well as countertops. All stone tiles are beautiful, however, and the best one is a matter of taste!
