Here at Floor Coverings International of Charleston, we are pet lovers just like you. And because of that, we value our pets’ comfort and safety – but that does not mean we are willing to sacrifice beautiful floors. Luckily, we don’t have to, and neither do you!

We’ve helped several homes around Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and the Lowcountry find pet-friendly flooring that is also a beautiful compliment to their homes, and we hope that you are next. Here are some of our favorite pet-friendly flooring options.

Pet-Friendly Floor Charleston

Stay Cool With Stone & Tile

There is no better option when it comes to durability than stone or tile. Resistant to cracks, scratches, dents and stains, it can handle whatever your furry friends throw at it. Stone and tile also tend to stay cool, making it a great option to help your cat or dogs regulate body temperature on hot Charleston days.

Cork in Charleston

Cork is a flooring option that is growing in popularity thanks to its durability and eco-friendliness, but it is also tremendously pet-friendly. In addition to its durability, it is moisture resistant, which all pet owners can appreciate. It’s also hypoallergenic, so dander, fur and dirt are turned away and don’t get trapped within. One more added benefit to cork is that it absorbs sound, which will dampen the tapping of your pets’ active nails.

Luxury Vinyl

In this day and age, no matter what the flooring obstacle is, it seems like luxury vinyl is the answer, and pets are no exception. Its variety of styles allows you to mimic everything from hardwood to tile at a much lower price than the original. It also packs a bit more cushion than hardwood, making it a slightly more comfortable option than for you and your pet.

And Carpet, Too!

Although it may not be the first option that comes to mind when thinking, “pet-friendly,” there are plenty of carpet options to consider. It’s generally safer to stick with cut pile carpeting with a cat or dog roaming the home, as loop pile carpeting can be susceptible to claws getting stuck in the loops. If that happens, it can be potentially painful for the animal and harmful to the carpet. Some great cut pile carpets include frieze, plush, and saxony.
