Lifestyle Blog Michiel Perry Black Southern BellePlease tell us a little about yourself.

I am a lowcountry girl from South Carolina who loves antiques, home decor, southern living and spending time with my family. I grew up in the South and went to college in DC and at one point in time used to plan political events for Google.

Why did you start blogging and what do you enjoy most about it?

I started blogging in April 2015 and what I enjoy most about it is the ability to meet so many fun people and learn interesting stories. When I am scouting for a photoshoot or working on a new story, I am always getting to learn about new people and exploring new places. Even when I think I know so much about the South, there is so much I don’t know and I enjoy getting to see what the South means to different people and regions of the country.

How would you describe your personal style?

Traditional eclectic. I love good traditional pieces including antiques, brass, brown wood and chinoiserie but I also love modern shapes and glass pieces. I think having lived in DC and in the Charleston area influences my style.

What is your favorite interior design trend and why?

My favorite interior design trend is mixing modern with traditional. I love seeing people use things from the past mixed with modern style of today. If there is an antique store to be found, I will make my way there and I love incorporating my favorite pieces from modern stores to make a layered look.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I go to my parents house and walk around my neighborhood. My parents live on 20 acres in the woods in a home my grandfather built and both of my parents love decor so it is great to go to their home and find inspiration. I live in the historic district of  small town in South Carolina and there are 300 year old homes all around as well as live oak trees and plenty of charming shops. My neighbors always have a fun story to tell and love to show me their newest decor items.

Can you explain a recent project or post you’ve been working on?

I worked on an outdoor dinner party photoshoot where we styled healthy foods in a modern home. We paired bold colors and patterns as well melamine dishware and marble bases for a unique yet casual look. Being in the South, the weather is perfect for outdoor entertaining almost all year and this was a wonderful project to work on.
