Tell us about yourself.
From as far back as I can remember I have always had at least one creative outlet. I love to paint, draw, craft, design and make pottery. My hobbies bring me so much joy but finding the time to do them is tough. I started my blog in late 2016 to feed my passion for interior design and the arts (all of them – visual, performing, culinary…). With a full time career in financial services, a bustling family, a demanding schedule (and the list goes on), it’s tough to find time for things that you love! But, I’ve committed to MORE. More inspiration…more hands on expression of my own creativity…and more beauty in my world. As I explore and expand my own space and fill it with awe-inspiring design, experiences, and ideas, I use my lifestyle and design blog to share them. Through interior design projects like my newest conquest, a vacation rental in Wintergreen, VA, to assisting my husband on his latest house flip, there is no shortage of design challenges and inspiration in our lives.
I am a Southern girl in DC (because D.C. is most certainly NOT the South). I am a devoted wife and mother to 2 amazing kids who just happen to be 18 years apart. My personal design style is modern mountain – a little bit rustic with a whole lot of sophistication. I am happiest watching the sunrise on the deck in the mountains wrapped in a blanket reflecting on how incredibly amazing it is to be alive.
My hope is that readers will join me on this journey to add MORE beauty and creativity to life in a way that feeds their own soul and stirs their passion.
What’s one of your favorite design pieces you have in your own home?
This is a really hard question because I try to purchase only the things that I love! One of the most unique, custom features in my home is our staircase. Each tread and riser was made by my husband. He fused Brazilian Cherry flooring planks together to create the stair system, trim, handrail, and hidden liquor storage (which also happens to be automated).
What is your favorite design trend of 2017?
I embrace timeless design that I hope transcends what is hot “for the moment.” My personal love of mountain modern or rustic chic design does appear to be gaining traction in the main stream. Think matte, oil rubbed floors, reclaimed wood, stacked stoned, large beams, faux taxidermy…all of those elements are showing up in a wide variety of spaces and being incorporated in more eclectic designs.
Do you follow any other blogs for inspiration? If so, which ones?
Yes! Here are a few of my favorites –
Can you explain a recent project you’ve been working on?
I have lots of irons in the “design” fire right now. The one that has the most of my attention is a vacation rental that my husband and I are building in Wintergreen, VA. It is a 6 bedroom, 5 bathroom home with 3,400 square feet of living space. It is under construction right now. I have just started making design selections. The first area of focus is the kitchen! I am reworking the architect’s original layout (a little) and making cabinet and finish selections. Please follow my blog to stay up-to-date on our progress!
